Founder/Product Manager/Product Strategist/Tech Hobbyist

I build products for a living, and small worlds for fun.

Hi, I'm Adam. I head up commercial strategy at a game-creation platform, after years in product and a start-up I co-founded. In my spare time I build my own projects, and this site is where I put them.

01

Night Sky

  • Live data
  • Next.js
  • Canvas
Night Sky
  • Tonight over Brecon
  • Saturn, up close
  • Horizon view

See which stars, planets, constellations, galaxies and satellites you can spot from any location right now. It accounts for the weather, local light pollution and what is above the horizon.

Launch Night Sky
The spark
I wanted to know what I would see if I stepped outside tonight, without having to read a star chart.
What I built
A live star map with dome and horizon views, a visibility model that weighs light pollution, moonlight, twilight and cloud, and an outlook that picks the best time to look tonight.
What I learned
Working out whether a star is visible takes a lot of modelling. Sky brightness, the Moon, the atmosphere and the cloud forecast all change the answer.

Digital Ecology

  • Multiplayer
  • Three.js
  • Simulation
digital-ecology.fly.dev
  • The nature channel
  • The shared world
  • Every creature's journal

A multiplayer artificial-life game. You build a creature from parts, name it and release it into a shared 3D world that keeps running. You don't control it. It eats, fights, mates and dies on its own.

Launch Digital Ecology
The spark
TechnoSphere, a 1990s online world where people designed creatures and released them into the wild. I wanted to build my own version.
What I built
A simulated world that runs all the time, a creature builder, a nature-channel camera that follows the most interesting scene, and a journal that each creature writes in the first person.
What I learned
Balancing an ecosystem is hard. Early rule sets kept ending with the herbivores wiped out, and it took many simulated days of tuning to reach a stable population.

Wayfind

  • Adaptive quiz
  • JavaScript
  • O*NET data
Wayfind
  • The survey
  • The expedition map
  • Down to a direction

A website that helps people find a path, passion or calling. You answer plain multiple-choice questions while an expedition map reveals where your answers point, then explore any path down to a specific job, business or cause.

Launch Wayfind
The spark
Most career tools rank jobs by pay or prestige. Wayfind gives every path the same weight, from bricklayer to barrister, unless you say pay or status matters to you.
What I built
327 paths and 34 businesses to start, 146 questions asked adaptively, and fit scores built on O*NET occupation data (CC BY 4.0). Nothing is sent to a server, and your progress stays in your browser.
What I learned
A good question is one that splits the paths in the lead. Choosing each question that way reaches a clear reading in 20 to 45 questions, from a bank of 146.

About

Eight years of building products.

I lead commercial strategy at a game-creation platform. Before that I spent four years in product at a global payments company, and before that I co-founded a consumer privacy start-up and ran it as CEO.

Outside work I build projects to learn new technology. Night Sky, Digital Ecology and Wayfind all started that way. For the full career history, see my LinkedIn profile.

01

Founder

Co-founded a consumer privacy app and ran it as CEO, from the first prototype to tens of thousands of users.

02

Product Manager

Led large technical programmes in payments, from writing the requirements to seeing them through to launch.

03

Product Strategist

Now leading commercial strategy, working on pricing and where the business grows next.

04

Tech Hobbyist

I build side projects to learn new technology, like the three on this page.
